From Story to Image

Understanding begins with cognition—and cognition begins with story. This blog introduces a conceptual data model that visualizes how actual and heard experiences evolve into vicarious experiences and ultimately form mental images. Built using Richard Barker’s notation, this model helps us archive and structure knowledge in a way that reflects how we perceive and internalize the world.

From Story to Image
Modeling Based on 西剛志『結局、どうしたら伝わるのか?』

Entity Name Description
Story A narrative composed of either actual experiences or stories heard from others.
Actual Experience A sub-type of Story representing firsthand, lived experiences.
Heard Story A sub-type of Story representing secondhand narratives received from others.
Vicarious Experience The cognitive process of re-experiencing a story through imagination or empathy.
Image The mental visualization formed as a result of vicarious experience.

By modeling cognition as a flow from story to image, we gain a powerful framework for archiving knowledge that mirrors human understanding. This is the first step toward transforming how we perceive and shape the world.
